THE HISTORY & ANTIQUITIES OF THE COUNTY OF BUCKINGHAM, by George Lipscomb - A CD-ROM facsimile - £29.95 (excl. p & p)
The original book, published in 1847, runs to over 2600 pages, spread over 4 large volumes and is recognised as one of the main histories of the County, covering all parishes.

The book starts with a general introduction to the county, and then proceeds to describe each parish, grouped in their appropriate Hundred. The description given for a parish, usually includes a topographical description, manorial history, pedigrees of the important families, lists of the clergy, a description of the church and the monuments therein, and also extracts from the registers.

The book is additionally illustrated with numerous drawings and elaborate vignettes. The illustrations show churches and important buildings, as well as monumental brasses etc.

The book, published originally in 1755, contains histories of all the parishes in the Buckingham Hundred i.e. it includes details on Addington, Adstock, Akeley, Barton Hartshorn, Beachampton, Biddlesden, Buckingham, Caversfield, Chetwode, Edgcott, Foscote, Hillesden, Leckhampstead, Lillingstone Dayrell, Luffield, Maids Moreton, Marsh Gibbon, Padbury, Preston Bissett, Radclive, Shalstone, Steeple Claydon, Stowe, Thornborough, Thornton, Tingewick, Turweston, Twyford, Water Stratford, and Westbury.

The author of the book, Browne Willis, is perhaps the most distinguished antiquary that Buckinghamshire has produced, and during his lifetime he also published famous works on Parliament and on the Cathedrals of England. Although he amassed a huge collection of manuscripts on the history of the county of Buckinghamshire (now held at the Bodleian Library), he only ever produced this book on the county.
